SARAWAK DELICACY.

Assalamualaikum readers... J

Never went to Sarawak? Feel like to travel to Sarawak? Here, I will share some tips about the foods that all of you must try when in Sarawak...

1.     Umai

Umai is one of Melanau traditional foods and if you are fanatic of sushi or Japanese food, Umai is an obligation for you to try. This is because Umai is made from a fresh fish that had been sliced before mixed with onions and lime. For the elder, it is usually eaten with sagu but I prefer with rice.

2.     Kolok mee

For those who first time trying this kolok mee, they will say it is special and freakin’ delicious because the noodles that have been used are yee mee that has been mixed with slices of boiled meat or chicken and for it soup, it is from the broth of meat or chicken. And believe it or not, i loved it so much and can eat 2 bowl of it, hehe.. yes, our kolok mee is this good!

3.     Linut

I bet a lot of people out there never heard about this one. And it is common for anybody to feel strange when hear the name of this food. However, linut is one of Melanau foods that you should try and it is difficult to obtain in other places. Linut is a mixture of starch with hot water and it is usually served with sambal belacan. Linut should be eaten when it is hot and the taste will change when it is cold. Linut look like glue and have a little sweet taste which said can help to reduce the fever.

4.     Dabai

Tadaaa, I’m introducing the fruit that is indigenous to Borneo that known as Dabai. It can be found mainly in Sibu, Kapit, and Sarikei.  By the way, it is a seasonal fruit. The ways to eat it is first rinse then soak in warm water until it softens. My mom use to seasoned dabai with salt, but sometimes she used soy sauce (all of my siblings love it). And don’t forget to try dabai fried rice, super yummy..

5.     Engkala

Engkala fruit or tebulus (called by Melanau) are very well known in Sarawak. The flesh is sweet and delicious and it is compulsory for you to try this fruit. Before you eat this fruit, it will be crushed with a spoon to soften the flesh. Then, the fruit will be soaked in warm water or hot water to soften it. This fruit usually season by mixing it with salt.

* if it is not ripe yet, it will cause the tongue  itchy and uncomfortable.
